
Little Valley Fire
Washoe County Regional Animal Services is prepared to respond to most disasters within our area. WCRAS staff is trained to protect the health and safety of the public and to provide care and shelter for evacuated animals.Staff practices regular mock emergency drills to prepare for a variety of circumstances that may arise during these critical times. The department is equipped with two mobile units containing equipment that can shelter up to 450 small animals. The department also has livestock trailers for large animal evacuations. Agreements for emergency sheltering locations are set up for large animal evacuation and sheltering.
Washoe County Regional Animal Services would like to extend our thoughts and support to those who have been affected by the Little Valley Fire. With the collaborative assistance of multiple agencies, WCRAS had a hand in assisting with evacuation and or sheltering of 101 equines and 17 small animals. WCRAS would like to thank everyone who assisted with this coordinated effort: University of Nevada Reno Equine Center, Community Emergency Response Team, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Nevada Department of Agriculture, Nevada Humane Society, Carson City Animal Control, multiple Washoe County Departments, Douglas County Animal Control, Lyon County Animal Control, Truckee Animal Services and members of the public that provided assistance and donations.
